Reolink’s new OMVI X16 PoE is built as a two-in-one security camera that pairs a fixed panoramic view with a powerful pan-tilt-zoom lens in the same unit. The system combines a triple-lens design and 16x optical zoom so it can watch a wide area and then zoom in on faces, license plates, or other small details far away. Aimed at larger properties and higher-security spots, it also records to local storage with no required subscription, which gives users more say over how their video is kept and used. It is on sale now in the US through Amazon and Reolink.com.
Panoramic and PTZ in a Single Camera
The OMVI X16 PoE uses a total 24MP triple-lens setup that joins two different types of cameras into one body. On the fixed side, a 16MP dual-lens panoramic bullet camera blends two images into a single 180-degree ultra-wide view, so the full scene stays on screen with no big blind spot in the middle. Next to it, a 4K (8MP) pan-tilt-zoom dome camera handles the close-up and tracking work.
That PTZ dome can spin continuously in a full 360-degree circle and tilt up to 95 degrees, which helps cover large open spaces, long driveways, or buildings with awkward layouts. Reolink pitches this pairing as a way to see the full picture while still being able to zoom in and inspect what is going on without switching between separate cameras. The idea is to mount a single device that can act like both a wide-angle overview camera and a zoom camera watching a specific target.
16x Optical Zoom and Long-Range Detail
At the center of the OMVI X16 PoE’s detail work is a varifocal lens that can zoom from 5.3mm to 86mm with an F1.6 aperture and true 16x optical zoom. Because it keeps 4K resolution across that zoom range, Reolink says users can read license plates or recognize faces at long distances. That kind of reach can matter in parking lots, gated entrances, or larger yards where people or vehicles may show up far from the main building.
Optical zoom also helps keep image quality intact compared with digital zoom, which just enlarges pixels. For owners, that can be the difference between a blurry close-up and a frame that can be used to verify incidents or share clips when needed. The company is clearly focusing this model on people who want both broad coverage and the ability to pull out small details from that larger scene.
SyncTrack Smart Tracking and AI Detection
One of the standout functions on the OMVI X16 PoE is SyncTrack, which ties the panoramic and PTZ lenses together for automatic tracking. When the panoramic camera detects a person, vehicle, or animal, the PTZ dome can lock onto that subject and follow it as it moves. The camera keeps tracking even after the subject passes beyond the original panoramic view, so the PTZ can continue recording where the fixed lenses cannot see.
Reolink’s smart detection can distinguish among people, vehicles, and animals, and perimeter alerts cover line crossing, zone intrusion, and zone loitering on the panoramic lens. Reolink also includes Local AI Video Search at no extra cost, so owners can type a plain-language description to find matching moments in recorded events. Reolink says the on-device AI is there so alerts focus on the activity that matters.
Wide Coverage for Larger Properties
The hardware is aimed squarely at homeowners and businesses with bigger areas to monitor: larger homes, yards, driveways, small commercial sites, or sensitive entry points. The 180-degree panoramic view keeps the full scene in sight, while the PTZ’s 360-degree endless pan and 95-degree tilt let users follow activity almost anywhere around the installation point. That can reduce the need for multiple separate cameras to cover the same space.
Reolink describes the OMVI X16 PoE as a fit for “high-security environments,” where both overview and long-range detail matter. With one mount and a single PoE connection, the camera is designed to act as a main watchpoint for an entire area, from curb to doorway. That could appeal to users who are trying to simplify their setups while still keeping broad and detailed coverage.
No Mandatory Subscription and Local Storage
Along with the camera hardware, Reolink is also leaning on its approach to storage and fees. The OMVI X16 PoE supports local storage options and does not require a subscription plan to record or access video. For people who are wary of ongoing monthly costs or cloud-only storage, that can make a difference in how they manage their security system over time.
Annie Potter, Head of Marketing at Reolink North America, framed the launch around visibility and control. She said the OMVI X16 PoE is built to give both homeowners and businesses “greater visibility and confidence” in what is happening around their property, while local storage and no mandatory subscription fees give users more control over both their security and their footage. For anyone looking to cover a wide area with a single camera that can also zoom in on far-off details, the OMVI X16 PoE lands squarely in that space.
