SimpliSafe has announced a new device called the Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Alarm Listener. This product is designed to work with existing smoke and carbon monoxide alarms already installed in homes. Instead of replacing current alarms, users can add the listener next to their detectors. When an alarm sounds, the listener picks up the noise and sends a signal to SimpliSafe’s monitoring center, which is open all day and all night. This means that homes can be watched for fire or carbon monoxide problems, even if the detectors themselves are not “smart” devices.
The Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Alarm Listener is made for people who have alarms that are not connected to a larger security system. Many homes have basic smoke or carbon monoxide detectors that only make a loud sound inside the house. These do not alert anyone outside the home or contact emergency services automatically. SimpliSafe’s new device listens for these sounds and can send out an alert, so help can be sent even if no one is home to hear the alarm.
This new product is easy to add to a current SimpliSafe security system. It works with other SimpliSafe devices and can be set up without professional help. The listener uses batteries and does not need to be wired into the home’s electrical system. People can place the listener within six inches of their existing alarms. Once it is set up, if the alarm goes off, SimpliSafe’s monitoring center is notified and can call the homeowner or send help if needed.
SimpliSafe states that the goal of the listener is to make homes safer without forcing people to replace working detectors. The company points out that many homes already have alarms that meet local rules, but these alarms only work if someone is there to hear them. By adding the Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Alarm Listener, homeowners can keep their current alarms while still getting the benefit of professional monitoring.
The product is now available for purchase through SimpliSafe’s website and other retailers. People who already use SimpliSafe systems can add the listener to their account. This device is expected to help people who want added safety but do not want to buy and install new alarms all around their home. SimpliSafe says the listener will help more families stay protected from fire and carbon monoxide risks.
