Konnected has officially joined the Works with Home Assistant program, which means its devices are now certified to work with Home Assistant. This move brings the first certified garage door openers and alarm panels into the program. All of these devices use ESPHome, an open-source firmware that helps connect various smart home products to Home Assistant in a simple way. Konnected is known for making products that allow people to add smart features to existing alarm systems and garage doors, rather than replacing them entirely.
The Works with Home Assistant program is run by the Open Home Foundation. It certifies products that have been tested to work well with Home Assistant and ensures companies provide ongoing support and updates. The program is funded by Home Assistant Cloud subscribers and hardware sales. For Konnected, the certified devices include the Smart Garage Door Opener blaQ, the Smart Garage Door Opener White (version 2), and the Alarm Panel Pro. Each of these was tested by the ESPHome team to make sure they work as expected.
Konnected has been active in the Home Assistant community for years. Its first products made it possible to connect older, wired alarm panels to Home Assistant. This was helpful for those who wanted to keep using their older security systems, but also wanted modern features. Garage door openers have been another area where users faced problems, especially with openers that rely on cloud services. Konnected, building on earlier community work, developed open-source hardware controllers that work locally and do not rely on the cloud. These devices are now available in over 60 countries.
The Konnected Alarm Panel Pro can connect up to 12 zones, which means it can handle multiple sensors and devices at once. It supports keypads and sirens, and it has a 12V power supply for any devices that need it. The panel is designed to run all the time and uses little power, so it can keep working during power outages if you use a backup battery. This makes it a good option for those who do not want to rely on many battery-powered sensors. You can power the panel with a regular 12V supply, Power-over-Ethernet, or both.
There are two versions of the Konnected garage door opener. Each is built to support different sets of garage door manufacturers. The blaQ model supports brands like Chamberlain, LiftMaster, and Craftsman, while the White version covers others. Konnected has an online tool to help users figure out which opener will work with their garage door. Both openers allow you to keep using your original remotes and apps if you want. The White model has a built-in sensor to tell if the door is open or closed, while the blaQ model can also control the opener’s light and lock, and can partially open the door on some systems.
Konnected’s entry into the Works with Home Assistant program is part of a larger effort to help people get more use out of the devices they already own. The Open Home Foundation supports this goal by making it easier to connect existing products to Home Assistant, which can help cut down on waste. All of Konnected’s devices work locally, without needing a cloud connection, but Home Assistant Cloud is available for those who want remote access to their smart home systems. The program’s main point is to list devices that have been fully tested and are supported for the long term, giving users more confidence when choosing products for their smart homes.
