Govee’s new Holiday Pattern Projector Light, model H3860, is built to turn the front of your house into a colorful animated backdrop without a lot of setup. It combines a wide RGBW “nebula” wash that paints your wall in color with a separate projector that throws moving patterns on top, so you get both mood lighting and clear images in one unit. Sixteen physical pattern discs and 71 app presets give it a lot of different looks, from Halloween and Christmas to year-round celebrations, without swapping out the hardware.
Two light effects in one unit
The main idea of this projector is simple: one part lays down a colored background and the other puts a themed animation over it. The RGBW nebula light acts like a wall wash, filling up the front of your house, garage door, or fence with shifting color. On top of that, a pattern projector throws moving images that stay visible because the two light sources are designed to work together.
The projector uses 16 replaceable physical discs, which Govee describes as an easy-swap design, so changing the look means changing the disc rather than downloading anything. Since the patterns come from actual discs, the projected images stay sharp and don’t depend on Wi-Fi or streaming content. The light output is rated at 55 lumens, which is meant for decorative display on surfaces, not for lighting up a yard like a floodlight.
16 themed discs and 71 software scenes
Govee includes 16 projection discs in the box, covering both holiday and everyday themes. There are discs for classic seasonal events like Halloween and Christmas, plus options that work for birthdays, parties, or general decoration the rest of the year. Worth knowing before you plan around it: Govee says the disc patterns are fixed, and it does not currently sell extra pattern discs separately, so the 16 in the box are what you get. You use the same fixture for everything, and the character of the display changes just by swapping discs and changing the scene in the app.
Beyond the physical discs, the projector has 71 preset scenes available in software. Those scenes control how the nebula background behaves and how the light responds over time, so you can pick calmer slow fades or more active party-style movement. You pick and adjust these scenes in the Govee Home app, where you also match them with whichever disc you have installed in the projector.
Coverage, placement, and outdoor durability
For coverage, Govee rates the nebula wash at up to 1,500 square feet. The projected pattern is a good deal smaller: from 32 feet back, Govee puts the largest pattern at roughly 376 square feet, so the colored wash fills the wall and the animation sits inside it. That still covers most typical home fronts, including siding, brick, or garage doors, as long as the surface is reasonably flat. The focus is adjustable for throw distances from right up against the wall out to 32 feet, so you can tuck the unit near your house or place it across the yard and still keep pictures sharp.
The projector head is built for outdoor use with an IP67 rating, which means it can handle rain and dust when set up outside. Govee rates the power adapter only IP44, though, so that end needs more shelter than the light itself. Govee rates the operating temperature from -4 degrees Fahrenheit to 104 degrees Fahrenheit, so it is meant to stay out through typical fall and winter conditions in many parts of the United States. Power draw is 24 watts at 24 volts.
Smart control, Matter support, and syncing
On the smart home side, Govee lists voice control support for Matter, Amazon Alexa, and Google Assistant for this model. The product page does not spell out which exact functions Matter can reach, so plan on the Govee Home app for scene and pattern choices. That is also where you tune brightness and match the light behavior to whichever disc you have installed.
For people who already have multiple Govee lights, this projector supports Bluetooth multi-device sync. That lets you link several Govee fixtures together so they can follow consistent lighting behavior. What to know before mounting it outdoors
If you are thinking about adding this to your fall or holiday setup, placement and surface choice matter a lot. The best results come from pointing it at a large, fairly smooth surface such as siding, painted brick, or a garage door, within that 0 to 32 foot throw range. Take a minute to measure the distance from where you plan to stake or mount the light to the wall, so you know you can hit your target area and fine-tune focus.
Because it is an outdoor light with a 24 volt power supply, you will need access to an outdoor outlet and a safe path for the power cord where people will not trip over it. Keep the projector lens clear of obstructions like bushes or railings, and tilt it so rainwater runs off the housing instead of pooling.
