Amazon is rolling out a bigger, sharper, and smarter smart display with the new Echo Show 16, which comes with a full Fire TV experience built in and a Fire TV remote in the box. The 16‑inch screen is designed to act as a central hub for streaming, smart home control, family organization, and photo display, while Alexa+ adds more visual features to voice conversations. Preorders start today, and Amazon says units will begin shipping later this year.
A Larger, Sharper Screen With a Thinner Frame
The Echo Show 16 centers on a 16‑inch full HD display that Amazon says has 10% more viewing area than the Echo Show 15 and delivers colors that look twice as rich. The frame around the screen is made from anodized aluminum and is nearly 40% thinner than before, giving it a flatter, more modern look on a wall or counter.
For people who struggle with reflections, Amazon is offering an optional Nanomatte display version. This uses the same anti‑glare tech as the Amazon Alexa Tablet 12 Pro and is rated for more than 90% less glare and 50% less sparkle compared with a standard screen, according to the company. That design is aimed at keeping the screen easier to see in bright kitchens, near windows, or under overhead lights.
Mounting options are flexible. The Echo Show 16 can hang on a wall like a small TV or sit on a counter with one of two accessory stands. There is a standard stand for simple placement and a swivel‑and‑tilt stand for adjusting the angle and direction toward different parts of a room.
Built‑In Fire TV and Home Screen Choices
Fire TV is built directly into the Echo Show 16, so it can function as a streaming TV as well as a smart display. A Fire TV remote is included in the box, letting you navigate apps, launch content, and control playback from the couch or across the room instead of always relying on voice control.
The built‑in Fire TV supports major streaming apps. Amazon lists Netflix, Disney+, YouTube, Prime Video, HBO Max, Peacock, Tubi, and Pluto among the services that can run on the device. That makes the Echo Show 16 a wall‑mountable smart home panel that can double as a TV for movies, series, and short videos.
Beyond streaming, the home screen can be tuned to different uses. A customizable favorites bar lets you pin go‑to apps or controls, and there are three Screen Styles to pick from: Smart Home, Family Organizer, and Photos. Each is aimed at a different kind of household setup or daily routine.
Smart Home Dashboard, Family Hub, and Photo Frame
The Smart Home Screen Style turns the Echo Show 16 into an always‑on dashboard for connected devices. It focuses on controls for lights, thermostats, and other gear, and also ties into the new Alexa Home Map. Amazon says Alexa Home Map will roll out in preview later this year, giving the device a map‑style view for managing the home.
For families, the Family Organizer Screen Style puts shared life up front. It includes a color‑coded calendar, to‑do lists, meal planning tools, and access to a Cooking Library. That setup is meant to make it easier to see what’s on the schedule, what needs to be done, and what’s for dinner, all in one place on the wall or counter.
The Photos Screen Style turns the Echo Show 16 into a full‑screen photo frame. In that mode, the screen focuses on displaying images when you are not watching shows or using smart home controls. The larger size and higher color saturation are meant to make personal photos stand out more than on smaller Echo Show models.
Audio, Camera, and Night Vision Upgrades
For sound, Amazon is using eight custom micro woofers paired with two tweeters inside the Echo Show 16. The device supports Advanced Room Adaptation, which tunes audio playback to match the room’s acoustics. Amazon says it keeps adjusting playback whether the device is mounted on a wall or sitting on a counter stand.
On the camera side, the Echo Show 16 adds a new 13‑megapixel wide‑angle camera that Amazon says has the widest field of view on any Echo Show so far. The camera supports auto‑framing during video calls, keeping people centered without manual adjustment. Visual ID range is also extended, going from about eight feet on past models to up to 17 feet on this device, which expands how far back someone can stand and still be recognized.
Night vision is coming to an Echo Show for the first time with this model. For Live View through the Alexa app, the Echo Show 16 can use night vision so you can see a darker room more clearly from your phone. That feature is aimed at checking in after dark without relying only on visible light.
More Power, Smarter Sensing, and Alexa+
Inside, the Echo Show 16 has 20% more computing power than its predecessor, according to Amazon. Amazon says the extra power keeps interactions fast and fluid.
Enhanced Omnisense brings together room temperature sensors and improved presence detection. With those, Alexa can respond to a cold room by turning up a thermostat or turn on lights when it detects someone entering a room. That sensing lets the Echo Show 16 respond automatically without a spoken command each time.
Alexa+ changes how conversations with Alexa appear on the Echo Show 16. Interactions unfold as rich visual content on the screen and are organized into Cards, which group related information and responses. These Cards are also available in the Alexa app and on Alexa.com, and Amazon says certain features require Alexa+, which is included with a Prime membership.
Privacy Controls and Availability
For privacy, Amazon points to a few specific hardware and software controls on the Echo Show 16. There is a physical button that disables both the microphones and the camera, and a clear visual indicator so you know when Alexa is engaged. Users can also review their interactions with Alexa through the Alexa Privacy dashboard, where they can manage them as well.
The Echo Show 16 is available for preorder starting today. Amazon says the device will begin shipping later this year, and the optional Nanomatte version and stand accessories will be offered alongside it. With the larger screen, built‑in Fire TV, upgraded camera, and new sensing features, the Echo Show 16 is set up to be Amazon’s new flagship smart display for home entertainment and control.
