Google has started to roll out Gemini for TV 1 to Google TV Streamer devices. This update will replace Google Assistant on these devices over the next few weeks. The upgrade is designed to help people use their voice in a way that feels more natural when searching for shows, movies, or information using their TV.

With Gemini for TV, users can ask for content using regular speech instead of set commands. For example, someone can say that they like dramas and someone else likes comedies, and Gemini will suggest a movie that could work for both. It can also answer questions about TV shows, such as what happened in a specific episode or season, or recommend new shows people are talking about. This makes it easier to find something to watch without needing to type or scroll through menus.

Gemini for TV also goes beyond just entertainment. It can help people learn by answering questions about school topics or explaining ideas in simple terms, such as why volcanoes erupt for a child in third grade. It can also help with projects around the house, like giving instructions for recipes or DIY tasks. When a user asks for help, Gemini can show YouTube videos related to the question right on the TV, so people can watch and follow along at the same time.

To use Gemini for TV, users just need to press the microphone button on their Google TV Streamer remote and speak their question or request. The goal is to make it easier for people to find content, get answers, and use their TV for more than just watching shows. The rollout will take place over the next few weeks, so not everyone will see the update right away. After the update, Google TV Streamer owners will use Gemini instead of Google Assistant for voice search and help on their TV.
