Google has announced a new voice assistant called Gemini for Home. This assistant is designed to help people manage daily life at home using voice commands. It builds on technology that was first seen with Google Assistant, but adds new features and uses more advanced AI models. The goal is to make it easier for anyone in the household, including guests, to control smart devices, find information, and get help with tasks.

Gemini for Home lets users interact in a more natural way. People can still say “Hey Google” to start, but the assistant now understands more detailed and complex requests. For example, users can ask it to play music from different streaming platforms by naming a song or describing it. It also lets users give several smart home commands at once. Someone might say “dim the lights and set the temp to 72 degrees,” and Gemini for Home will carry out both actions. It can also handle requests that involve some reasoning, like turning off all lights except in one room.

This assistant also helps with family organization. It can set up calendar events, make shopping lists, and set timers, all using simple voice requests. The assistant can add specific items to a shopping list or schedule reminders for events. It answers questions about a wide range of topics, from travel planning to solving household problems like keeping animals out of the backyard. The responses are tailored, using Google’s AI to provide information that fits the user’s needs.

Gemini for Home comes with a feature called Gemini Live. This allows users to have a more conversational and ongoing discussion with the assistant without having to repeat “Hey Google.” With Gemini Live, people can discuss topics, ask for step-by-step help, or get advice on things like cooking or troubleshooting home appliances. For example, someone can ask for recipe ideas based on ingredients they have or get help fixing a dishwasher. The assistant can also help with creative tasks, like making up a bedtime story with details chosen by the user.

Google plans to replace the current Google Assistant on speakers and displays with Gemini for Home. Both free and paid versions will become available. Early access is planned to start in October. More information about features and availability will be shared closer to the launch. This new assistant is aimed at making daily routines at home easier and providing personalized help for a wide range of tasks.
