Google has announced a new subscription service called Google Home Premium, which will take the place of the previous Nest Aware plan. This new plan is designed to give users a more advanced smart home experience by bringing the latest AI technology, named Gemini for Home, to compatible devices. The service is available in two tiers: Standard and Advanced. The Standard Plan costs $10 per month or $100 per year, while the Advanced Plan is $20 per month or $200 per year.
The Standard Plan includes several features that aim to make managing a smart home simpler. With Gemini Live, users can have conversations with their devices without needing to say a hotword each time. The Ask Home feature helps with home automation, while 30 days of video history and smart camera alerts provide added security and convenience. The Advanced Plan includes everything from the Standard Plan and adds more detailed camera features. These include AI-generated event descriptions, Home Brief summaries, and the ability to search video history using Ask Home.
Google Home Premium is also part of the benefits for subscribers to Google AI Pro and Ultra plans. AI Pro subscribers receive the Standard Plan as part of their subscription and have the option to upgrade to the Advanced Plan for an extra $10 per month. AI Ultra subscribers automatically receive the Advanced Plan without any extra cost.
Along with the new subscription, Google is rolling out changes to the Google Home app. The app has been redesigned to make it easier for users to manage their devices, automate tasks, and check what is happening in their home. The updated app brings together controls for older Nest devices, such as cameras, doorbells, thermostats, and locks, making it a central place for home management. The app’s new design is built to work well with Gemini, allowing for more natural and useful interactions.
With these moves, Google is aiming to make smart homes more responsive and helpful. The focus is on making interactions feel less like issuing commands and more like having a conversation, while also improving security and ease of control. The company is starting early access for some of these features, asking users to share feedback as they continue to make updates. For more information on the new features and devices, Google suggests visiting their online store for updates and product news.
