Google has introduced a new set of home devices powered by its AI model, Gemini. The release includes updated versions of the Nest Cams and Nest Doorbell, as well as a new Google Home Speaker. The company says these products are designed to work with Gemini for Home, which uses AI to help users manage and monitor what happens around their home.

The new cameras include the Nest Cam Indoor (3rd generation), Nest Cam Outdoor (2nd generation), and Nest Doorbell (3rd generation). These models are wired and feature 2K HDR video, which is Google’s highest resolution so far in the Nest lineup. Independent testing from DXOMARK ranked all three at the top for image quality in their classes. The cameras now also have a wider and taller field of view. The Nest Cam models offer a 152-degree diagonal view, while the Nest Doorbell gives a 166-degree diagonal view with a 1:1 aspect ratio. This helps users see more of their property, including packages on the ground and visitors from head to toe.

Low-light performance has improved with a new sensor and a wider aperture, which helps the cameras stay in full color longer during dawn and dusk. Infrared night vision is also included. The upgraded hardware supports new AI features through Gemini for Home. Users can get more detailed notifications, such as being told if a dog jumps out of a playpen, and receive zoomed-in video previews. With the Ask Home feature in the Google Home app, users can search video history by asking questions like “What happened to the vase in the living room?” and get relevant video clips as answers. There’s also a Home Brief feature that summarizes hours of footage into a short video update.

All three cameras come with features that do not require a subscription. These include digital zoom and cropping, intelligent alerts for people, vehicles, animals, and packages, and event video previews. The included event video history has doubled from three to six hours, with 10-second clips for each event. The cameras use encrypted video by default and require two-step verification. A green LED shows when the camera is active. The devices are built with recycled materials, and the packaging is plastic free. The outdoor camera and doorbell are IP65-rated for weather resistance, and the products are available in several colors.

These devices can be controlled through the Google Home app and will support Gemini features. A Google Home Premium subscription unlocks advanced alerts and longer event histories for both Nest and onn devices. The new Google Home Speaker is also being introduced, built to work with Gemini for Home and designed for more natural conversations. This speaker is the first audio device made for the Gemini experience in the home.
