Gentex and The Genie Company have announced a partnership to bring cloud-based garage door activation to HomeLink. This new feature will let users operate their garage doors using HomeLink devices built into vehicles, with the help of cloud technology, instead of relying only on radio signals. The companies say this move is meant to make remote access more reliable and to keep up with changes in how people use smart home devices.

The new system will work with Genie’s Aladdin Connect, a garage door controller that uses Wi-Fi. By connecting HomeLink with Aladdin Connect, drivers can open or close their garage doors through the cloud without having to press a button on a remote. This setup is expected to help in places where radio signals do not work well or are blocked by walls and other buildings. It also means users will not have to carry a separate remote, since the controls are already built into many cars.

Gentex is known for making connected car products, including HomeLink, which lets drivers control garage doors, gates, and other home devices from their car. The Genie Company makes garage door openers and smart home products. By joining forces, the two companies hope to give customers a smoother way to use their garage doors and tie in other smart home features. This partnership also means that as more people use smart technology at home, they will have more options for connecting their garage doors to their daily routines.

The companies say that security will remain a focus. Cloud-based commands will use encrypted connections and will require users to link their HomeLink system with Genie’s Aladdin Connect. This should help keep the connection safe and make sure only approved users can control the garage door. At the same time, the cloud system is designed to work with current safety features, such as alerts if the door is left open.

For car makers, this partnership gives them a new option to offer buyers. Many new vehicles already come with HomeLink built in, and adding cloud-based garage door control could be a selling point for drivers who want more smart home features. For homeowners, the cloud connection offers another way to manage home access, whether they are arriving, leaving, or letting someone in while they are away.

This partnership shows how companies are finding new ways to connect cars and homes. By bringing together their products, Gentex and The Genie Company are trying to make it easier for people to use smart features every day. The cloud-based HomeLink integration with Aladdin Connect is expected to roll out first in North America, with other regions to follow later.
